About Us

The Royal Melbourne Tennis Club (RMTC) is located in Richmond, Melbourne, and is one of only four real tennis clubs in Australia and fewer than fifty worldwide. Founded in 1882 on Exhibition Street, the club was granted a Royal Charter by Queen Victoria in 1897. It relocated to its present Sherwood Street premises in 1975 and remains the second oldest and largest real tennis club in Australia.

The club's facilities include two real tennis courts - the George Limb Court (North Court) and the Alan Hamer Court (South Court) - plus a squash court, swimming pool, gymnasium, bar, dining room, library and meeting room. RMTC is one of only five clubs globally with multiple real tennis courts. The club hosts the Australian Open and the Boomerang Cup, the world's largest real tennis tournament by player involvement, and has produced world-ranked professionals including Robert Fahey, holder of the most World Championship wins.
