Campden Hill Lawn Tennis Club
9 Aubrey Walk, London W8 7JG, UK

Campden Hill Lawn Tennis Club is a privately-owned, member-run club founded in 1884 - just seven years after the first Wimbledon Championships - making it one of the earliest clubs established solely for lawn tennis. Located on Campden Hill in Kensington, London, the club is non-profit making and owned by its 1,600-strong membership, with a committee of nine members holding overall responsibility. The club has twelve courts in total - six outdoor and six indoor - plus a practice court. A clubhouse with bar and restaurant is also on site, along with coaching provision. Court booking is restricted to peak times, and members are encouraged to "cut in" and play with others of a similar standard rather than pre-arrange all their tennis. Proficiency at tennis is a requirement for full playing and voting membership. The club has a notably informal character with an emphasis on social play alongside competitive tennis. Its history includes a colourful wartime period when an anti-aircraft gun was stationed on one of the courts - a fact that, in keeping with the club's traditions, did not entirely stop members from playing. Due to demand, the current waiting list for membership stands at between three and five years.
